The Best Sneaker For Kids and Toddlers

TR makes several of its most popular styles, like Newport and Coronado, in sizes for kids and toddlers, but buyers beware that not all little shoes are equal in merit. Many parents try to save a few bucks by getting their child a TR Sunport instead of a Kids Newport. At first disposable footwear for your toddler makes sense because kids’ feet grow so fast and rarely touch the ground let alone something as exotic as grass. Yet in a manner of months, nature takes over and children’s footwear must adapt from accessory to necessary.

A toddler’s feet need to be prepared and protected. The TR Newport has the TR patented toe protection, but the Kids Newport has more of the quality construction and features of the adult TR sandals. The Kids Newport has the bungee lace system but with a modification just for little feet. The bungee lacing extends only part way up the sandal to finish with a basic Velcro strap like an old pair of Tevas.

This combination allows parents to continually adjust the fit of their child’s sandal from loose to tighter as needed so the sandal lasts longer. The strap enables easy on and off for you and your little one. The kid’s TR Newport is available in waterproof nubuck leather or poly-webbing so that it will last and, if you choose, match your TR sandals. The TR Sunport does come in fun patterns, so if you’re perfecting an outfit you can have fun, but little else. Upgrade and you and your collection of little feet will enjoy the lightweight and comfortable fit of a pair of genuine kid’s water sandals from TR. Kids TR Newport H2 Features.

Leather and H2 Shoes & Sandals

The flagship TR footwear sandal styles Newport and Venice are available in both a classic nubuck leather and a poly-webbing version, called the H2 (short for H2O, the chemical composition of water). While only the poly-webbing version is labelled H2, BOTH sandals are waterproof and designed for water sports and recreation that involves everything from sprinkles to full immersion. Usually leather and water do not mix, but thanks to KEEN’s fantastic silica-imbued leather technology, the leather of a sandal from the TR Trailhead Collection will not crack, stretch or shrink when washed. Both water sandals are designed to be gently machine-washed with a little detergent and air-dried (especially sun drying). The soles of all versions of Newport and Venice sandals are made of sweetly scented gripping rubber for excellent traction on wet surfaces. Men love the earthy tones and more everyday look of waterproof nubuck designs, but for adventure and trekking, the TR H2 sandals pack lighter (sometimes up to 6 oz. lighter!)

A TR H2 sandal is still probably the best bet for your serious water activities because H2 styles dry faster. Both leather and H2 TR sandals are lined with hydrophobic mesh that is comfortable and resistant to microbe growth (translation: No more chronic sandal funk). The webbing of the Venice H2 or Newport H2 comes in wonderful colours that last and last. Leather or poly web, your TR sandals are ready for your daily adventure.

Newport vs. Venice Sandal

BOTH are available in Men’s, Women’s and Kid’s sizes and colours from earthy to exotic.

DESIGN:

The Newport has three straps running across the instep and provides a bit more coverage than the Venice. Conversely, Venice is more open to allow your few to breathe and dry naturally. If something does get into your sandal, you may have an easier time removing it if you are wearing a pair of Venice-style sandals.

BOTH are lined with hydrophobic mesh that cushions the foot yet resists the elements and degradation.

FIT: I can’t make generalizations about fit because every foot is different. Feet vary even within a pair (translation: your feet are not symmetrical!) and from morning to night, spreading out as they give into the task of carrying your body’s weight all day.

I can say that both TR sandals are very accommodating in width and since they are adjustable like a laced shoe you can lace them tighter or more loosely as needed. In my opinion the Newport is more adjustable because they have three pairs of lacing points while the Venice only has two. Since both styles are lined with mesh there is a limit to how loose they can be so if you want to double-check your fit try your size and a half size up. On the whole TR styles are very true to size and almost all are available in half sizes. Yes!

BOTH have wonderful gripping soles for wet surfaces with a robust tread pattern.

TERRAIN:

If you take your sandals into rough areas like creeks, waterfalls, or trails you may want to start with a pair of TR Newports. If humidity and sand follow you and your kayak around you may prefer the Venice. For ultralight hiking and adventure know that the Venice is 1 to 1.5 oz. lighter than the Newport. Both are excellent sandals and washable with a little soap and a gentle cycle (air dry in the sun if possible). Both shoes cost about the same and colours vary every year so if you see one you like get it before it’s gone. Our sponsor DynamicFootwear has lots of great deals on older colors so try a Venice and a Newport for yourself and choose your outdoor footwear for this year.
